6 Big Jewellery Trends this Spring

Fringe Detailed Bracelets and Necklaces

A trend that was started by Parisian designers, fringe detailed bracelets and necklaces have been very prevalent in spring accessory collections. Opt for metallic pinks and greens or tie-dye colours to pair with this ultra sleek accessory choice.

Shamballa Bracelets

With spring in full swing, shamballa bracelets are all the craze for festival goers in their bohemian-chic getup. An accessory that you can layer with just about an outfit, this arm decor is a must for fashionistas who appreciate versatile jewels.

High Contrast Jewellery

This can be done with any of your favourite jewellery pieces, as long as it creates a strong contrast in textures with the rest of your outfit. A recurring trend that has been featured by everyone from Victoria Beckham, to Narciso Rodriguez and Michael Kors, one of the best variations of this look was recently seen on one of Chanel’s runway models, wearing a chunky pearl bracelet with a cream patterned leather carry bag.

Imitation Jewellery

Every woman with their eye on red carpet fashion would love to get their hands on the head-turning jewellery bedecking their favourite celebs. Jewellery designers have hopped on this rising trend by creating imitation pieces for the masses. A great example of this would be Kate Middleton’s engagement ring, which inspired a trove of sparkling look-a-likes for brides eager to get some (close to) royal bling on their ring finger.

Heavy Metal

For gold and silver purists, this accessory trend is a must this spring! It’s all about heavy metal pieces (no stones allowed). Credit must go to Givenchy, Balenciaga and Ferragamo for creating a rather compelling minimalist look with bold gold and silver statement jewellery. Any sophisticated outings to charity galas or the opera around the corner? Try pairing a thick gold choker with your choice of minimal white apparel to get this gorgeous look down.

Beads for Bohemian

Getting the Bohemian look cannot be done without the right accessories. Since Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez have been spotted on multiple occassions wearing long flowy skirts and a variety of shoulder grazing earrings and feathers, the trend has spread like wildfire. The Bohemian craze is a spin-off of 90s gypsy fashion, and it requires some wardrobe forethought. Must-have accessories for this look include colourful beaded jewellery, feather headpieces and big leather belts.

Allegoria

This is a jewellery development that hasn’t peaked yet, and is expected to grow in popularity going into 2014.  In a similar vein to the art deco designs inspired by The Great Gatsby, allegoria themes (stirred by current designer obsession with geometry – think Dior at Paris Fashion Week) will bring back aspects of the abstract and spiritual into jewellery designs. Expect allusive, sculptural and shockingly intricate pieces!
